Each year in honor of Earth Day, BLANCO makes a conscious effort to bring awareness to environmentally friendly techniques and initiatives. This year we took inspiration from one of our products, the BLANCO SOLON™ Compost System, and headed out to Temple University’s Research Garden to learn all about composting and how it makes a difference within a garden!
Charlene Briggs, environmental scientist, educator at Temple University and founder of SustainabilityEd.com graciously hosted the BLANCO team at the Research Garden located at Temple University’s Ambler Campus. BLANCO’s Christy Emens interviewed Charlene on Facebook Live to learn about best practices for composting and how it helps the environment.

Some composting tips Charlene shared with us:
- Keep a storage container, like the SOLON handy in the kitchen.
- Chop up larger/thicker items such a banana peels into smaller pieces to speed up the composting process.
- Stay away from composting meats and other proteins.
- Beware of anything that may have been sprayed with pesticides or fertilizers!
