Did you know that more than 96 percent of the food we throw away ends up in landfills? Once in landfills, food breaks down to produce methane, a potent greenhouse gas which contributes to climate change. One of the best ways to reduce household food waste, therefore helping our environment, is to compost food scraps instead of throwing them away.
Help the Environment by Composting
Composting offers numerous benefits for our environment and in our community! Find out more below.

What is composting?
Compost is a stable material with a content called humus that is dark brown or black and has a soil-like, earthy smell. It is created by: combining organic wastes (e.g., yard trimmings, food wastes, manures) in proper into piles, rows, or vessels
What are the benefits?
• Saves money from buying less food.
• Reduces methane emissions from landfills and lowers your carbon footprint.
• Conserves energy and resources, preventing pollution involved in the growing, manufacturing, transporting, and selling food (not to mention hauling the food waste and then landfilling it).
• Supports your community by providing donated untouched food that would have otherwise gone to waste to those who might not have a steady food supply.

BLANCO's SOLON™ Compost System is an easy and simple way to collect organic waste inside, beneath the countertop and out of sight. When you're ready to add to your compost pile, simply remove the SOLON™ and take outside.
